Excellent Sound Quality Great Value Durable |
First off I would like to say that I never purchased the 702's from here but now I see the price I think I should have since they are cheaper from iheadphones & I paid about 20quid more, so well done iheadphones!.
These are every bit as good as the reviews say they are, they are not about headbanging bass but a very refined headphone which are very balanced, they have a wonderful sound stage which really is HUGE! & when I play live recordings makes me think I am actually there, when there is clapping all around me I almost expect to look behind & see people there, at one point I did & thought to myself you silly so & so :-))))
The reviews on other sites are 100% correct when they say these need an amp, I made the mistake of trying to run them from my integrated amp (via the headphone socket), the 702's were VERY bland & I was thinking of sending them back for perhaps the Sennheiser HD650's, after some help from other owners on the forums they all advised me to get a powerful amp, either valve or solid state with many saying the solid state was better for these headphones, so I purchased a monitor II amp from NJC audio, the AKG 702's are now spacious sounding, the bass is very deep, realistic & tight (bassheads need not apply) & the great thing I like about these headphones is the detail on the top end, its PHENOMENAL! I can literraly hear every single minute detail.
I don't know how AKG have managed it but these headphones are WELL worth the money, they are also not that expensive when compared to other headphones like the Denon D5000, but you have to factor in the price of a good amp otherwise buying these & plugging them into an iPod you would just be wasting their potential.
Pro's of these headphones,
1 - Wonderful sound stage
2 - Very balanced sound
3 - Mid range is super smooth
4 - DETAIL DETAIL & MORE DETAIL :-)))
5 - They feel very well made with a great design
Bad points of these headphones,
1 - The bass could be too weak for bass lovers
2 - Should have come with the holder like the 701 has
3 - Sound weak & bland without a powerful amp
No other points I can think of, if you love music, are prepared to fork out for a powerful amp & the rest of your hi-fi system are all up to scratch then these are VERY VERY impressive headphones & you owe it to your ears to buy yourself a pair.

Leak Too Much Sound |
Bought the K702s about 3 months ago now and I love them. They are a definite jump from my Sennheiser HD212s. They reproduce sounds with great accuracy and when you listen to music, you can pick out every note and sound as they sound so much clearer than most consumer headphones. I must stress that these DO NOT flatter or enhance the music, they reproduce it exactly how the sound engineers wanted to sound, mainly due to their precise frequency response, so if you think they lack bass compared to other headphones e.g. Beats by Dr Dre headphones, the song you're listening to has the amount of bass the producers had intended and the K702s show this. Try other songs or mess around with different EQ settings on your player and you'll see that these headphones have a very precise and excellent frequency response.
Paired with the NI Audio Kontrol 1 soundcard (or some other high end soundcard / driver), these sound epic. Overall, great headphones.

The AKG K702 have a fantastic sound straight out of the box. So what more will be available when in 100 or so hours they are burnt in? Well built, seem bullet proof, very comfortable with velvet ear cups. 5/5 recommended.
iHeadphones are a perfect company to buy your headphones from. Easily contactable for any advice / queries which will be honestly given. I can strongly recommend iHeadphones for a purchase, use them with confidence.
Very fast delivery can be expected.
Thank you for my enjoyable easy purchase, Alan
