Excellent Sound Quality |
None Too Expensive |
I bought these in ears in the hope of being able to listen to music properly on the go. I could not really get myself to listen to music walking around as I just could not get the sound quality I liked, but thought I had to give it a try. I should also say I am a stickler for sound quality above all else.
At first the fit was very awkward and getting comfortable even worse. Eventually when I got them sort of comfortable (having tried a number of cushions provided) I thought the sound was good but not overwhelming.
I thought it had to do with the fitment so I figured having already spent so much I may as well see if I can make them work like I want. So I went for custom ACS in ear moulds. Quite a palava as you have to have ear impressions done and then wait 5 weeks plus for them to arrive.
So when I got the moulds back and fitted them to the units I was immediately impressed with the quality of the ACS moulds, very much up to the quality of the 535's.
And so on to the music. Well its simply day and night. These are simply the best sounding headphones I've heard. I cannot say how thrilled I am that I went done the custom mould route, as I am truly blown away, by the clarity, seperation (it might sound daft but it sounds like you can almost distinguish the different drivers), tighter and soild bass. The unit also plays a fair bit louder and any volume above midway on the iphone begins to get uncomfortable.
So while the ACS moulds will set you back around £90, it is without doubt the best solution for these headphones and honestly I would not recommend the 535's unless you got moulds done. You would be much better off spending £150 on some B&W's for example...
Another bonus is fitment. It is now many times easier and the units can be in ear in seconds and ... also stay there.
My star ratings are based on the 535 with moulds, please keep this in mind. Were it not for the moulds I doubt I would have gone to the trouble of wrting a review.
Overall very pleased - in the end.

I've been buying Shure earphones for the past three years. I started off with the now discounted SE-110. Like all the Shure earphones noise isolation is superb - you really hear nothing but the music and at first it's very disorienting not to hear the outside world. Great for commuting and gym use. However, the lower models tend to lack bass with the exception of SE-420/5 and SE-530/5.
Both these models have a separate driver for bass and mid-range/treble. The SE-530/5 has two sub-woffers offering a deep but not booming bass.
the only complaint is the common issue of the cables splitting resulting in sound being heard in one ear-piece only.
if your warranty has expired, you're sh*t of luck in getting a free replacement. That said the new newer models have detachable cables which should permit easier replacement.
Overall excellent but build could be better!

I had a pair of the SE530 for two years, and got through 4 pairs. I treat them with the upmost respect and care, however the cables repeatedly break, sound starts crackling, and since the warranty is only two years from purchase, they will not replace my current pair which I have only had for about 3 months. I have been offered the SE535's for a discounted rate of £311! which is so little of a discount I do not feel it is worth the risk of this happening again. Utterly disgraceful to refuse to replace a 3 month old pair of headphones experiencing what is clearly a common fault. I will no longer be buying Shure headphones as the more reviews I read, the more common a problem this appears to be. On the plus side, they are the most incredible sounding headphones on the market, just let down beyond repair by the terrible warranty cover.

I bought the SE530's - I have been a big Shure fan for years and use their mics for recording a lot - so I figured if I buy these top of the range ear buds and looked after them they would last me a lifetime and bring my a lot of pleasure.
Yes, they sound incredible, but my love affair with them was brought to a swift end and left me feeling like my intelligence had been utterly insulted. After nearly 3 years of use - and that's relatively light use - I haven't worn them for hours every day, in fact on average it may only amount to maybe 2-3 hours a week - so pretty light use really - just for when I travel etc - anyway within the last 6 months the cable has cracked in 2 places near each earphone, and the covering has now come apart where the wire enters one of the earphones so the bear wire is now exposed.
Anyway - I called Shure to ask about getting them repaired - THEY DO NOT REPAIR THEM!!!! They are sealed units and can not be repaired apparently. So unless you break yours within 2 years and they are still covered by the warranty, then forget it - you have wasted your money. Having been stung by this I would go for a pair that have replaceable parts. To make flagship model earpphones with sub standard materials in UNACCEPTABLE - and to then not repair them - is DISGUSTING!!!
They the offered me these at a discount - for £304!!!! Uh - gee thanks Shure.
Shure have let themselves down!!

Takes a while to get use to the shape compared to the SE530's and they must be pushed in properly otherwise the bass disappears.
Sound is spacious and bass is deep and rich.
One in they stay in place.
